Project 810 Design Studio

Sysnopsis

This Degree Project was undertaken for Project 810, New Delhi with the aim to design and produce a new collection for the studio. In 2020, the studio had launched its first furniture collection- 810/one. The opportunity to design the subsequent collection while taking inspiration from the existing designs was to be undertaken.

The project was initiated with the intention of coming up with a collection for the upcoming series of furniture by the studio. Eventually, it was decided to add many more pieces of furniture to this graduation project. The two main collections from the Graduation Project are Rahi and Tesera.

Rahi is the seating collection- it comprises a single seater sofa, a double seater sofa, a daybed, a stool, a high stool and a bench. The motive behind this collection was to launch a line of products that would cater to the premium Indian consumer. The intention was also to keep an Indian approach in design and to employ crafts of wicker weaving and woodworking. The production methods for these products were majorly handmade and the same was considered while designing the range. This Collection can be further divided into two parts- The sofas and the daybed follow a similar design language while the stools and bench follow a slightly different approach while using the same materials and dimensions.

Tesera is the table collection consisting of a center table and a side table. The motive behind this collection was to come up with a design for a table that would complement the seating collection. And hence the material and dimensions being used for this collection is similar to that of the Rahi collection. There is also a pattern etched on the table and the inspiration for the pattern comes from the weave pattern used for the Rahi collection. The tables are Statement Furniture pieces and they are complete on their own.

Along from these Products, a design for collection of lamps was designed and prototyped. The objective behind these lamps was to bridge the gap between the new designs and the existing designs. Two folding chairs were also designed to extend the old collection. And, a memento in the form of a puzzle was designed for the India Design 2022.

Overall, the journey with Project 810 was full of challenges and positive learning. An experience like this has helped develop character as a designer and navigate the professional world of design with confidence and self-awareness.
