This graduation project provided me with a unique opportunity to delve into a domain where I could envision the future and engage in innovative design. My lifelong fascination with futuristic and sci-fi films has always driven me to create something far ahead in time.
Working at Mercedes Benz as a junior interior designer has centered my focus on redefining luxury. I’ve constantly pondered the concept of luxury and how it can be seamlessly integrated into a car, paying meticulous attention to every small detail, from grab handles and air vents to steering wheels and beyond. This project allowed me to think beyond mere transportation and consider the car as a part of a holistic living experience in a futuristic utopian society for the elite.
While my involvement primarily focused on the interior, it opened up a realm of boundless possibilities in designing products, architecture, experiences, and systems. My specific goal was to project a future that is utopian, as we often encounter dystopian visions in movies. As a designer, I believe it’s my responsibility to design for a brighter tomorrow.
This project entailed extensive research into future trends and their extrapolation, examining the past while envisioning the future, defining luxury in a futuristic lifestyle, and ultimately designing the entire living experience. It was an enjoyable exercise to break away from the present mindset and immerse myself in futuristic thinking. This process involved watching futuristic movies, reading intriguing articles, and listening to podcasts to grasp the methodology of shaping a future scenario. I also delved into art books related to movies and TV shows, where they dissect the development of worlds, characters, plots, and scenes, providing invaluable insights. This project represents my humble attempt to undertake a similar creative journey.
