Aami & the Mangrove is an interactive web-based visual novel that tells two parallel stories of two girls facing the same dire circumstance, though living in two 'different' worlds - the world of today, and the world of old stories. It is a self-written story composed of a mixture of myths from Assam, Nagaland, and the Sundarbans and inspired by the rich folklore of the Sundarbans delta and old regional beliefs regarding the souls of man and animals. It explores man's connection to nature and uses common folkloric structure and tropes to tell a story that feels familiar and reminds us of what we once knew.
The story has been rendered using an art style composed of Kalighat painting style, Gond art, and Dhokra Brass crafts. It has been illustrated and written by the student, Alafiya Hasan, developed in p5.js by Srivathsa M.S, and has a score composed by Alita Dharmaraj.
