This thesis is aimed at facilitating a seamless post migration experience for users transitioning from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), with the overarching goal of minimising the discrepancies in user experience between these two distinct accounting platforms. QuickBooks Desktop, a venerable tool that has served as the bedrock of financial management for small businesses and mid-market enterprises over the course of several decades, is now undergoing a transformative shift, urging users to embrace QuickBooks Online—a cloud-based solution that offers not only modern features but also the advantages of mobility and accessibility.
However, this evolution is not without its challenges, as users grapple with disparities in terms of functionality, interface, and user familiarity between QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.It was a vital challenge for me to get into the psyche of the American small business owner and understand how these disparities and changes impacted them and their business.
The essence of the proposed solution lies in establishing a sense of continuity for users—ensuring that QuickBooks Online does not feel like an entirely foreign environment but rather an evolution of the familiarity they cherished in QuickBooks Desktop. The most interesting part for me was the inevitability of such technologically driven transitions and how each one of us in finding ourselves amidst the fast paced, ever-changing tech fabric of today, be it UPI and online payments replacing cash transactions, online ticketing systems replacing long queues at physical counter and netbanking and bank applications almost completely eradicating our need to visit our local bank branch.
By cultivating an experience that seamlessly unifies the familiarity of QuickBooks Desktop with the innovation of QuickBooks Online, this thesis strives to set a precedent for transitioning legacy users into modern cloud-based platforms with confidence, comfort, and enthusiasm.
